About the Artist
I can’t remember when I started my fascination with art. As a child, born in Canada’s capital, Ottawa, I remember drawing, painting and sculpting with whatever I could get my hands on including filling up our deep freezer with snow sculptures…or lining the fences with natural wet clay sculptures from the Rideau River at my grandmother’s cottage. I have graduated from these early interests in art, with around 10 years of formal art education and many years working as a visual artist specializing in equine portraiture to seeing how I can convey positive observations and statements about what has evoked something in me that I want to share. To name a few social interests, like mental health awareness, what makes people interact differently in various environments or what moves us to tears of laughter or just tears. Appreciation of our collective mosaic of imprints of music, art, dance and other art forms is intriguing. The integration of our new Canadians to an understanding of our Canadian culture including the culture of some of our first nation people presents a need to nurture and explore from an artist’s point of view and as a Canadian. Hopefully we can tap into ways of improving many aspects of our environment from understanding and sifting through the lessons and strengths our many cultures can offer. I still want to celebrate our diverse and relatively unspoiled country by painting the hidden and sought-after places that offer so much energy needed to recharge spiritually, emotionally and physically. I am endeavoring to capture something of this that will resonate what I feel to others through my work. Being positive while being aware of our challenges is a healthy start to improvement especially with the Covid 19 virus that we are all dealing with now.

Artist Statement
At this time of my life, I would like to make a positive impact on society while I have the chance to. My interests include appreciating the obvious natural formations of artistry in landscapes, animal, and human studies. To name a few, social interests like mental health awareness, what makes people interact differently in various environments or what moves us to tears of laughter or just tears. The next challenge is to appreciate the inherent energy within these subjects and the use of canvas or paper to bring it to you, the viewer. I am attempting to focus on the positive aspects of most of my work. Doing this includes the exploration of our surroundings be it landscape or social interactions. Sometimes just being lucky enough to catch something out of the ordinary is enough to evoke some thought. Humour, drama, sound, colour, texture, shapes, light, movement, and other forms of art evoke responses. Hopefully some of these responses indicate an appreciation of stories told through the hand rendered art of painting, drawing and sculpture. As humans we are fortunate to be able to conceptualize. This ability is realized when studying a piece of art. Hopefully my art can help people understand why I choose certain colours, textures, shapes, techniques, and mediums to express something. I work in a variety of mediums, acrylic, oils, watercolours, pencil, multimedia, and sculpture. I am grateful that I took the time to study these approaches as it gives me a wider diversity of choice to play with.
Commissions
Collectors interested in commissions – I am still accepting a limited number of commissions in various mediums but I prefer watercolour or acrylic. Having worked for over 35 years capturing the personalities of people, domestic animals, wildlife and landscape, there is opportunity for me to combine these experiences and to integrate them into whatever is needed for the painting to work. Please contact me for more information on pricing and what we need to work with.
